Some of our favorite customers are coin collectors and the family of coin collectors. Many of our collectors make sure they have it in their plan that their families come to us when it’s time to sell off their silver coins and silver collections. They know us, they trust us, and they know we’ll pay what’s fair.
Many of our competitors aren’t focused on coin collectors. They do coins on the side. But we know how much time and care goes into building a beautiful and interesting coin collection, and we honor that. Every day.
So, you’ve inherited a collection (or a hoard) from a passed loved one, and you want to know what to do next? You have choices. Let us break those choices down for you.
How to Prepare to Sell Silver Coins or a Silver Collection
First, make sure you don’t want to keep the collection. Coin collecting is a great hobby! They don’t call it the hobby of kings for nothing! If you just want to learn about your collection, bring it in and we’ll tell you all about it! Please call us and tell us your story so we’re ready for you. Tell us you don’t plan to sell, but that you’re interested in learning more, we’re more than happy to help. We love educating collectors!
If you decide it’s not for you, that’s fine, too. We will honor the person who passed the collection on to you. We can tell you as much or as little as you want about your coins. If you just want us to total up the value of the collection, we’ll invest the time, energy, and care in doing so, and then we’ll pay you more than anybody else.
Often, we find people want to create a spreadsheet or invest a great deal of time cataloging the coins they want to sell to us. If it makes you feel better, please do, but generally speaking that is a huge waste of time. Sometimes you find something of value, but we’ll be able to tell you if anything is valuable just by looking at your collection quickly. We can quickly assess if this is a carefully curated collection including valuable pieces or rather what you have is just an accumulation. A lot of coins people think are valuable aren’t, and a lot of coins people don’t think are valuable actually are. We’ll help you sort the most valuable coins out so you’re sure to get the best price paid for them.
Step 1: Call South Bay Silver at Palos Verdes Coin Exchange
Often, the best first step is to just call or come in. Meet us, get to know us, understand our way of doing business. Just get familiar with us.
If you want to take a small sample of your inherited collection to a competitor, please do. We almost always know what our competitors pay. And we almost always pay more. If you want, feel free to go by and to talk to them.
(Pro tip: sometimes they say different things on the phone than they do in person. The price of silver fluctuates, but so do our competitors’ interest in silver and silver coins.)
Then, when you come to us, you’ll understand better just how much we care about collectors, and you, and your collection.
Option 1: Bring In a Sample of Your Silver Coins and Silver Bullion
If you have a lot of silver coins or a big silver collection, know this first:
We’re happy to meet you at your home or a neutral, friendly location like a bank.
You’re always welcome to bring in a few pieces or some photographs of the whole collection. If we’re able to, we’ll give you an idea of what you’re looking at before you bring in the whole silver collection. Again, if you prefer, we’re happy to meet you at your home. We do house calls all the time. We’re accustomed to handling and transporting significantly valuable items. It’s what we do every day! But if you’d rather start with a sample of your silver coins or whole collection, do whatever makes you comfortable. It’s our job to help you.
Option 2: Bring Everything In
If you’re ready to sell your silver coins or entire silver collection, just bring everything in. We’ll take the time required to carefully review all your coins (silver coins, gold coins, and more) and ensure you know exactly what you have. Some people are surprised at how quickly we’re able to go through a whole coin collection and produce a fair valuation. When you have a lot of pieces, it can take some time, but we promise to go through everything carefully yet quickly to make sure you know you’re getting the best deal possible.
If You Like, We Can Educate You
If you plan to bring your collection, it might be a good idea to come in early on a quiet day. Arrange with us ahead of time, and we will be able to take as much time as you like to go through the whole collection and educate you about all you have. If you come in late in the day on a busy day, and you don’t call ahead, we may not have enough time to handle your collection properly, especially if you have thousands of silver coins or more. So it’s always best to call ahead and plan to bring your coin collection to us early, and on a quiet day. Give us a call and we’ll guide you.
Step 3: Get Paid for Your Silver Coins or Silver Bullion or Whole Silver Collection
The last step is often the most satisfying for our customers: the part where they get paid. Sometimes people that inherit coins choose to keep a piece or two from their inherited collection to remember the collector by. We honor and respect that! We want you to be happy. That said, if you just want top dollar quickly for the whole collection, we’ll pay you more than anybody else for your collection.
Call or come in and we’ll help you begin the process. And if you’re interested in beginning a new coin collection, we can help with that, too! We love working with coin collectors to build a collection of their own liking. Whether you have or want silver coins, gold coins, copper coins, or something else, we’re here for you.
